PCAN continues to work in maintaining the momentum it has achieved over the past few years.  Membership continues to grow, as does the attendance at Association meetings.  The opinion of PCAN, as well as its support, is now sought on a regular basis.  Members now routinely testify during committee hearings on select bills.  PCAN is stepping up its effort to represent all Police Chiefs and law enforcement in the State by ensuring that a strong message is delivered to lawmakers, government officials and policy makers unaware of the already burdensome role of police.

The following are some highlights of what the Association has been involved in recently:

  • PCAN has met on several occasions with other professional associations to discuss legislative strategies and issues.
  • Special executive meetings are held, as needed, to discuss the Association’s position on proposed bills in the Legislature.
  • The Association has supported, opposed or requested clarification on several legislative bills during recent legislative sessions.
  • Regional Directors are being encouraged to seek out training opportunities available in their region, with the Association helping out financially to support this training.
  • PCAN continues to hold its annual meeting in October in conjunction with the NSA/POAN Conference and its semi-annual meeting in May of each year in conjunction with the LECC Conference.
  • Members are being asked their input regarding the proposal to limit alcohol use at the NLETC.
  • PCAN is attempting to redesign its website so as to attract more visitors and offer beneficial links and information to PCAN members.

We encourage all members to become more involved in the Association.  The Association continues to work at better serving all of its members and be a go-to resource for them.  PCAN provides a network of knowledgeable chiefs with years of knowledge that can be queried with operational or policy issues.  We encourage all members to let us know if assistance is needed.

Sincerely,
Dan Lynch
President
