After much research, and utilizing the expertise of Dennis Debbaudt, a well-known author and presenter on the subject, the University of Nebraska at Kearney has developed three courses to help provide knowledge and tools to law enforcement so that it can better assess and/or de-escalate calls which may involve autistic individuals.
One course is designed to help officers when encountering persons with autism, one is designed to help dispatchers when receiving calls related to autistic individuals and one is designed to help officers investigating unique situations and/or crimes which involve an autistic individual, as either the victim, suspect or witness.
These courses, whether utilized for mandated de-escalation training, use of force training, anti/implicit bias training, etc. can be presented at the requesting department’s location, free of charge.
